Father and child

Oh father, my heart is filled with sorrow to see you like this. It just wasn’t meant to be. Oh cruel fate. I don’t want you to be sad for me or angry at those fools who bombed our house. I merely want you to have good memories. Be happy that we shared our life together. Those summers we spent fishing, playing in leaf piles in the autumn, running in the meadows during the spring and just the other day making snow men and angels.

The Christmas dinners, the Easter egg hunts and my first day of school. I will miss you dearly father but I will live on forever remembering and dreaming in a happy place. I will be with mother. We can dream together. And if you get lonely just look up at the sky and remember. Just remember our times together and they will never be forgotten. Smile now father, be strong for me. You can shed a tear but do not weep. It hurts me to see you like this. If I can be brave then so can you. You told me so when mother died. I was sad but we got through. Memories, you said, are all needed, we had each other.

Oh father, you must be strong, you have to be. If you refuse – you tell a lie. Lies are ominous, you told me so. Son, you would say, no matter what you must be truthful. Face the truth with wide eyes, even when life seems grim. Be hopeful father, you must never give up. Never believe that you can’t do anything – we both know you can. I will never forget that plane that we made together. After many months of constructing and many tests it managed to fly. It flew so far that you thought it would get lost in the meadows.

Please don’t cry father, I will always be with you. You may not believe it but I am in your heart. As you said, love is stronger and will overcome death. Our love is strong. Although you are sad you will overcome it someday.

Oh father, I know it is hard to hear but one day I know, we will be together again. Mother, you and I. Remembering, dreaming and forever living in our happy place. Smile now father, wipe away your tears for I know it in my heart that someday – one day for sure that we will be together. Goodbye my dear father and you must know that I will always, love you.
